In the first half of 2013 the jewellery industry of Russia increased the use of gold for manufacturing of items by 19.3% compared to a year earlier, up to 26.868 tons (863.826 thousand ounces) and decreased the use of silver by 1.3% to 62.539 tons (2.011 million ounces), reported in the Assay Chamber of Russia.
”The total weight of gold products, manufactured in Russia, received at the State Inspectorates of Assay Supervision for assaying and branding, in the first half-year period grew due to the increase of the average mass and complexity of jewellery, as well as the growth of export volumes”, the interlocutor noted.

The mass of 18 Karat Gold and 14 Karat Gold items contains about 60% of pure gold. Silver products contain approximately 92.5% of pure metal.
In 2012, the Russian jewellery industry increased the consumption of gold by 13.5% compared with 2011 – up to 48.558 tons; silver – by 4.8%, to 130.665 tons.
